This morning Canoo announced in a press release that it had completed "Advanced Deliveries to Refine and Finalize Vehicle Custom Configuration"
There aren't a lot of details available about the pilot program that started sometime late-July, but we do know this:
Walmart was using the LDVs to complete InHome "direct-to fridge" deliveries - where the customer can opt in to have the delivery driver enter their home and put away the groceries for them. Probably not something I would want myself but surprisingly Walmart says it has "one of highest customer experience ratings in the business"
Walmart was using (4) LDVs Up fitted with with rack systems
As of August 8th, they had completed 307 deliveries and driven over 1,150 miles. That was about 2 weeks into the program and its been about 2 weeks since then so we can extrapolate and assume the pilot program finished with 600+ deliveries and 2500-ish miles.
Tony said the deliveries contained "refrigerated items" but my assumption is that these items were just placed into a cooler within the rack system and not that the LDV contained any specialized refrigeration capabilities within the cargo space beyond what air conditioning system is available as standard.
According to a Walmart employee, there is a commercial being filmed in Dallas at a Walmart store involving the Canoo LDVs happening today. However, I haven't confirmed this beyond the single source and that is all I know about it. I do suspect it will have them dressed in the "Walmart Blue" livery matching the photo released with the PR instead of the plain white LDVs that were being used for the pilot. Walmart has been known to have some pretty funny advertisements.
EDIT: Alright so, Canoo had a little bit of a press conference and showcase of the LDVs - I'm guessing this was misconstrued as being a "commercial" in addition to the "FullyCharged
Show" being there to film a segment as well.
