Reduce, Reuse, and...Upcycle?

Updated: Oct 14, 2023

Do you need a small, electric pickup? Since you're visiting this website you probably already have a reservation for Canoo's Pickup truck, but have you considered adding a Toyota Corolla to the list? Upcycle Green Technology, A Canadian company out of Price Edward Island (P.E.I.) is now taking pre-orders on their Pick Up EV conversion builds bringing a second life to used 2009-2013 Corollas.

Toyota Corolla's have a usable life expectancy of 10 years, so most of these cars being converted were probably destined for the scrap yard soon anyway. They are really taking the first two R's seriously in the Reduce Reuse Recycle mantra, and we love to see it.

The company has spent 2 years refining their prototypes and are getting ready for the next step, production! They are targeting a price tag of $35,000(CND) with range of 150 kilometers(90-95 miles). It's not a lot of range but considering you can drive around the entire island in 3-4 hours it's not so bad either. I personally owned an EV Smart Fortwo with similar range just outside of a major metropolitan city and never had issues other than bad public charging. It's pretty certain that Upcycles EV's will have a lot more utility and ROI for businesses than the Smart did and be cheaper than buying a brand new full size giant like the Ford F-150 Lightning.

They're looking at 100 conversions a year and ramping up to doubling it to 200 annually within a few years time. It's a small island, so having a small car company makes sense.

Good luck, Upcycle!
